One of the things that caught my attention when I started working in a tertiary public hospital in Sydney was the then campaign by the hospital union: to continue the supply of milk in the staff tearoom.
Coming from a country where even the provision of basic health needs is problematic, I found myself smiling because to me at that time, it was a seemingly trivial issue. After a while I realized this is not trivial after all as the provision of milk, coffee, sugar and tea is viewed as part of the government's responsibility to provide public health employees good working conditions.
This was the start of my journey to look closer into the different healthcare systems and to try discover health policies which may be applicable to the Philippines.
As a part of this journey, I pursued postgraduate studies (Master of Health Industry Management) and joined a professional health managers organisation (I am an Associate Fellow). I make it a point to engage in various activities to maintain my Certified Health Manager credential. I am also paying much attention to what's happening in the Australian public health system.
I've learned a lot of things and hope I can encapsulate it in the commentaries I will be posting.
Please join me in this endeavor and share your comments. I hope we can generate thought-provoking ideas and put forward suggestions beneficial to the Philippine health care.
